Local burger restaurant, Sofa King Juicy Burger, has been a staple in local Chattanooga eatery since it opened its doors in 2012. Located at the corner of Dayton Boulevard and Signal Mountain Boulevard, Sofa King Juicy burger is a very eccentric burger joint that offers burgers, beer, milkshakes and much more with an eclectic, vintage atmosphere.
Although they have been going strong for seven years, the restaurant had much controversy when they first announced their name. The phrase “sofa king juicy” sounds like a vulgar phrase when said aloud and this concerned some locals, especially parents. Despite the backlash, the owners stood by their comical title and deeply intertwined into their décor.
Upon entering Sofa King Juicy Burger, you immediately see the commitment made to make the appearance stay true to the name. The back of the restaurant has a prominently placed sofa which is surrounded by a variety of old advertisements for couches and sofas. This is accompanied by many other wild and aberrant vintage posters.
As for the food, the titular burger is unique than many others due to the quality standard set for them. They make their burgers with grass fed beef as opposed to the more popular grain fed method. There are also many unusual ingredients used to construct several of their burgers. Although you can get the conventional options like their classic and turkey burgers, the more ambitious consumer may try their “nutty burger” which is topped with peanut butter or a “hot hamburger salad” which puts 6 ounces of black angus on romaine lettuce and is then topped with grilled onions tomatoes, cheese, pickle, and their signature sauce. Despite their name, Sofa King isn’t just known for their burgers. Their milkshakes are very popular and made using liquid nitrogen machines!
Whether it’s for the burger, funny name, cheap beer, or unique milkshakes Sofa King Juicy Burger is definitely a fun spot to check out!
